Outdoor itinerary. A historical walk that develops along a city path that covers the places, palaces, symbols, monuments and churches closely related to the figure of Dante Alighieri and the characters attributable to him. Families, women, friends, enemies, history and legends that still bring the fourteenth-century character to life in a contemporary context. It will be surprising to discover that a part of medieval Florence still lived by Dante still exists. Dante as a symbol of Italian culture and an active figure in the struggles between Guelphs and Ghibellines and, later, between Guelphs themselves. Dante as a citizen and uncomfortable opponent in internal struggles for power in the city.
Discover “the city of the towers”, the Florence of a past world, a journey through time between the Middle Ages, the nineteenth-century city and the contemporary city. Significant historical information will be given along the itinerary to better understand the meaning of events that have marked the history of the city. Anecdotes will also be told about political figures, artists and simple citizens who will make the visit very smooth and fun. The route starts from Piazza Santa Croce and ends in one of the places linked to Dante himself, where it is possible to see one of the two very precious fresco portraits. Will Dante's house really be the one where the Father of the Italian Language lived? And is the church really the one frequented by Dante? Come with me and find out!
At the end of the walk you might like to visit from inside a real medieval tower, home to one of the most important Florentine “Arts”; here comfortably seated with an excellent glass of wine accompanied by some snacks. A place with a wide choice of Tuscan and Italian wines and many delicious products of the highest quality. It will be interesting to find out how wine played a role of great importance in the history of Florence and its artistic and social development, even in Dante's time. A simple tasting but at the same time a sensorial experience that helps us to better understand the importance of wine in Tuscan culture in general. Food and wine as an expression of the societies of yesterday and today.
