The tour starts with a significant historical introduction of the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore, telling of characters, anecdotes and curiosities that give a more concrete sense to what we see today. History and architecture of the building, the facade and the wonderful Dome, which are still studied by engineers and architects to truly understand the secret of its construction. A true miracle of Renaissance architecture! Following the external and internal visit of the Baptistery of San Giovanni, the oldest and most important religious building in Florence and symbol of unity of the Florentines. The first historical document that mentions the Baptistery dates back to the year 897 AD. and from the 12th century it is officially the city's Baptistery. An excellent example of Romanesque architecture, it is internally decorated with Byzantine mosaics from the 13th and 14th centuries performed on cartoons by the artists Meliore, Coppo di Marcovaldo and Cimabue. Inside ther's stand the funeral monument of Baldassarre Cossa (called the Antipope); Renaissance art masterpiece by the artists Donatello and Michelozzo.
The Museum boasts the most important collection in the world of medieval and Renaissance Florentine sculpture with works by Donatello, Michelangelo Buonarroti, Lorenzo Ghiberti, Luca della Robbia, Arnolfo di Cambio. Among the most characteristic works there is the reproduction of the fourteenth-century facade of Arnolfo di Cambio in 1: 1 scale, the Penitent Magdalene by Donatello and the Pietà Bandini by Michelangelo; in addition to the choirs of Donatello and Luca della Robbia and the Croce del Pollaiolo. Also interesting is the room dedicated to the construction of Brunelleschi's Dome with authentic equipment and reproductions of construction machines and lifting cranes.
